WebJun 14, 2004 · Actually, as Offshore said the crank seal and the rings are related. A good indication of problems is gease on the back of the clutch or the underside of the belt cover. That is a sure fire indication that the rings are gone. The compression will still be within spec, but if you tear down the engine you will find that the rings are flaking. I ride 50/50 trail to off trail. I am definitely going to change to a 2-2.25 track (likely 2" backcountry x2 which I'd love to hear reviews on as well).
