WISQARS can be used to query death data for the years 2001 - 2024, of which the underlying cause of death is specified using ICD-10 codes. WebGlobally the leading cause of death in this age group is cardiovascular disease, followed cancers which both account for more than one million deaths. Road accidents, HIV/AIDS and suicide are all significant within this group. For some countries, such as South Africa, by far the dominant cause of death is HIV/AIDS in 15 to 49 year olds.
